When you select a PNG file, the tool reads it locally, draws it onto a canvas at the chosen background color (used to fill any transparent areas), and exports the result as a JPEG blob at your chosen quality level. Nothing is uploaded to a server.
When to use PNG vs JPG?
- PNG is best for graphics with sharp edges, text, logos, or any image that needs transparency. It uses lossless compression.
- JPG is best for photographs and natural images with smooth gradients. It uses lossy compression and produces much smaller files.
- Converting PNG → JPG can shrink file size by 5–10× for photos, but transparent regions will be filled with a solid background color.
